PASIGHAT, Jan 31: ADC Tatdo Borang on Tuesday inaugurated the Greenland Driving School near Raneghat here, in presence of East Siang AAPPTF President Tabiram Moyong and others.
The ADC speaking on the occasion said that it was essential and an attempt by Mongam Rallen to improve the culture of road safety in densely populated Pasighat Township.
“We have witnessed many road accidents leading to injuries and deaths. Lack of knowledge of road safety and its violation were some of the major causes of accidents,” he said.
According to surveys, it was saddening to know that road accidents have taken more lives than dreaded diseases in India. Only the family who faces road fatalities could understand the pain of untimely deaths of near and dear ones, the ADC pointed out.
Borang underlined the fact that road safety could be achieved only through the coordinated efforts of the government, society and other stakeholders. He urged the school authority to recruit good trainers for driving training purposes adding that there must be orientation classes followed by hands on practical lessons by expert trainers including communication skill, ethics and professionalism on making every student a responsible and safe driver.
The ADC expressed hope that the training institute would produce good drivers and road accidents would substantially lower down and said that the establishment of the driving training institute in Pasighat marks yet another step towards transforming citizens into responsible drivers and riders.
East Siang AAPPTF President Tabiram Moyong threw lights on traffic management, rules and discipline, safe and correct driving concepts, manners and responsibilities of a driver and all aspects of practical driving on roads.
He stated that increasing population and rising traffic in urban areas has compromised on road safety, leading to increase in road accidents.
The steady rise in the number of road mishaps in the city was an issue that needs to be addressed promptly, he added. (DIPRO)
