PASIGHAT, Jan 31: The anti Leprosy day and launching of Sparsh Leprosy awareness campaign was organized by the District Health Society (NLEP), on Monday at Bakin Pertin General Hospital, here.
The theme of World Leprosy Day was ‘Act Now. End Leprosy’ with three key messages: Elimination is possible. We have the power and tools to stop transmission and defeat this disease leprosy.
East Siang DC Tayi Taggu administered the pledge on leprosy elimination.
He said that the district administration and the citizens of the district on the juncture of Azadi Ka Amrita Mahotsava will leave no stone unturned to make the district free from Leprosy.
“The disease is easy to identify and curable. We will put all efforts to cure and prevent the disease utilizing all available resources in the district. We individually and collectively will work to end the stigma and discrimination against persons affected by leprosy and help them in main-streaming with determination to fight against leprosy and making Leprosy a history,” Taggu said.
District Leprosy Officer Dr Tarik Talom highlighted the theme, aims and objectives of the campaign and anti Leprosy Day.
DMO Dr Radesh Tatan, JDHS (BPGH) Dr Talung Tali along with doctors, nurses, trainee students, general health care staff members and public participated in the programme. (DIPRO)
