NERIST student goes missing

ITANAGAR, May 25: A student of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) went missing on Wednesday morning. Capital Police have constituted a team under the guidance of Nirjuli OC for his search operation.

Identified as Aniket Dutta Gupta, 19, a student of Computer Science Engineering (CSE) 2022-2026 batch, went missing since Wednesday last. He hails from Gupta Kutir, Topla Basti, Tinsukia district.

Informing that the missing complaint was received at around 12 noon on Wednesday, ASP Thutan Jamba said a police team is carrying out a search operation to locate him.

“He has gone missing with his belonging (laptop) from the NERIST’s campus,” said Jamba.

Stating that mobile phone of a student was switched off, he informed that with the help of technology, surveillance of mobile phones is being carried out.

As there was a report that Rs. 5000 was withdrawn from his account on  May 24, Jamba said the bank statement  will also be taken into account.

Earlier, dead a body in semi-decomposed condition was found hanging at Lower D sector, Nirjuli on May 22 last, who was identified as Pergam Pade of Niji village under Gepen circle of Kamle district.

His missing report was lodged at Nirjuli Police station on May 22 last and he was missing since May 18from his house.

Informing that post mortem has been done and report is awaited, Jamba said after the completion of inquest, no fault play was observed due to which the deceased succumbed to death. However, a UD case (No 02/2023,US174 CrPC) has been registered, he added.
