Tezu Airport to get new terminal building

TEZU, Sep 19: Tezu Airport is all set to get a new terminal building (NTB) with enhanced capacity and better services  which would be dedicated to the nation by next.  Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia  in presence of CM Pema Khandu, Union Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju, MP Tapir Gao, state Civil Aviation Minister Nakap Nalo and others here on  Sep  24 next.

Airport Authority of India (AAI) executed gradation work to meet rising air traffic and provide modern facilities to the travelers. The works included extension of runway (1500m x 30m), construction of new apron for two ATR-72 aircrafts, 75m wide runway strip, construction of boundary wall and construction of NTB and a fire station-cum-ATC tower at a cost of Rs. 170 crore, AAI Tezu sources said.

The new terminal designed to prioritize functionality, efficiency and passenger comfort, built in an area of 4000 sqm, is equipped to serve 300 passengers during peak hours.

The building concept with simple form as it has been perceived as a single spacious volume, through which passengers can seamlessly flow from city side to the aircraft. The building interior gives a sense of calm, uncluttered spaces that offer a place for passengers to relax.

The interiors also depict local handicrafts and murals to promote tourist destinations.

The terminal will provide all modern passenger facilities, like VIP lounge, food & beverage counters, restaurant and retail shops besides equipped with various sustainability features, like double insulated roofing to reduce heat, LED lighting, ECBC compliant equipment, low heat gain glazing, rainwater catchment in an underground water tank, on-site sewage treatment plant with provision to reuse treated waste water for landscaping, refill make-up tank for HVAC system and accessibility features for differently abled people (Divyangjan etc.

Tezu airport is currently connected to Imphal, Dibrugarh and Guwahati with regular scheduled flights by Alliance Air & Flybig. The upgraded airport will contribute significantly to development of local economy by handling more passengers, increase flow of tourists and business travelers, create new jobs and boost local tourism industry.
