Suspected peddler nabbed with drug

ITANAGAR, Oct 30: Personnel of Mahadevpur police station (PS) led by officer in-charge AK Pandey along with CRPF In a successful operation apprehended a suspected drug smuggler in Sitpani Miri village area around 5 pm on Saturday.

The operation under supervision of Namsai SP led to seizure of approximately 11-grm of a yellow-orange powder, suspected to be heroin.

The team, including police constables Abo Wangpan & Chow Kanan Namchoom along with 186th CRPF Battalion’s G-Coy CRPF personnel had set up a checkpoint to conduct routine checking when they noticed a person acting suspiciously. Identified as Ashok Kumar Bhujel, 57, from Kailashpur village under Bordumsa PS of Assam’s Tinsukia district was questioned, but he attempted to flee prompting a chase by security personnel to apprehend him.

He was questioned in presence of independent witnesses Ganesh Sonwal of Khowji village and Bharat Sanwal of Janglai Village and his thorough search u/s 50(5) of NDPS Act and CrPC section 100 was conducted when a plastic soap case containing suspected drugs was found and seized.  Bhujel was arrested followed by legal actions, according to official sources.
