Rijiju and CM Khandu announce creation of new Bichom district

SEPPA, Nov 20: Union Minister for Earth Science Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced formation of new Bichom district during a public meeting of BJP here on Monday.

Bichom would be 27th district of Arunachal Pradesh, whose current population is estimated to be approximately 18.25 lakh.

There are 26 districts, which including year of creation are: Anjaw (2004); Changlang (1987); Kamle (2017); Kra Daadi (2015); Kurung Kumey (2001); Lepa-Rada (2018); Lohit (1980); Longding (2012); Namsai (2014); Pakke-Kessang (2018); Papum Pare (1992); Shi-Yomi (2018); Siang (2015); Tawang (1984); Tirap (1965); Lower Dibang Valley & Dibang Valley (2001); East Kameng, West Kameng, East Siang, West Siang  & Upper Subansiri (1980); Lower Siang (2017) and Itanagar (2022).

The creation of Bichom district was proposed by carving it out of Nafra in West Kameng district and Lada and Bana in East Kameng district, according to sources. Bichom village, located in Singchung circle of West Kameng district, is 118-km away from sub-division headquarters Singchum.

The duo arrived in Seppa via helicopter, emphasizing their commitment to the region and unveiled vital infrastructure projects. State Minister Mama Natung and MLAs Tapuk Taku, Goruk Pordung, Hayeng Mangfi and Biyuram Wahge (also state BJP president) were also present.

Rijiju addressing the rally sought support for BJP candidate Ealing Tallang, emphasizing his commitment to the constituency. Tallang, a former first-class GoAP officer, had resigned to contest on BJP ticket fromr Seppa East in 2019 but had narrowly missed by mere 29 votes.

CM Khandu echoing similar sentiments, in his address, urging people to support ruling BJP in 2024 elections for continued development of the state, East Kameng district in particular.
