Police nab 4 drug peddlers, recovers 37.78 grm heroin

NAHARLAGUN, Feb 11: Naharlagun Police, led by SP Mihin Gambo,reflecting its commitment to combat drug trafficking within Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), have successfully apprehended four individuals alleged involved in peddling suspected contraband heroin.

The suspected drug peddlers have been identified as Md. Ali Akbar, 32; Md. Jakaria Alom, 24; Md. Hibjul Rahman, 24 and  Md. Bahar Uddin, 20, from various villages in Assam.

A team of Banderdewa Police on Saturday acting on credible intelligence inputs about movement of drug peddlers in a vehicle with significant quantity of contraband narcotics from neighbouring Assam to be distributed in the ICR, SP Gambo Swung into action and formed a team comprising of SI K.Tada, H/C S.K Tiwari, constables T.Sala, A. Rajbhar and T. Bomdom led by Banderdewa police station (PS) OC inspector Kipa Hamak, to act under supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Paul Jerang.

The team set up a naka point in Doli-Kota area, intercepted the suspect vehicle during checking, brought it to Banderdewa PS and its meticulous search led to recovery of three soap cases containing pink-coloured powder weighing approximately 37.78 grams, suspected to be heroin. A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered with  Banderdewa PS and further probe launched to trace the source of drugs, according to an official release.

AONS adds: The criminals and those intending to join them should be aware of SP Gambo, a tough IPS officer, with a credit of ensuring either capture or surrender of large number of insurgents with arms and ammunition during his tenure as Changlang SP. With the GoAP committed to make the state crime free, it is but natural for the police, particularly of ICR, to be proactive. Moreover, he belongs to a community which is guided by plural decision making that makes it mandatory for the society for which he has to reflect his commitment through actions.
