Early Bird to hold bird walks to celebrate Earth Day-2024

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The NGO Early Bird has planned to celebrate Earth Day-2024 by conducting eight bird walks led by naturalists in Agartala, Mysore, Panaji, Kolkata, Salem, Srinagar, Tirupati and New Delhi from 6.30 am on April 21.

These walks are designed for children between 10 and 13 years of age and go beyond mere identification of birds. The walks would cover topics, like bird habitat, behaviour and life cycle besides games and activities for a holistic understanding of birds.  Those who wish to be part of the walk could register live: https://bit.ly/8walks

These bird walks are being organised in collaboration with partner organisations of each eight cities, Early Bird, Nature Conservation Foundation project coordinator Misha Bansal said in a release.

The city partners and bird walk locations are: Kolkata- Birdwatchers’ Society & Rabindra Sarovar; New Delhi- Sanjay Van; Salem- Salem Ornithological Foundation & Poolavari Lake; Srinagar- Wildlife Research and Conservation Foundation & BadamWari; Mysuru – Dharitri Collective & Lingambudhi tank; Agartala – Wild Tripura Foundation & Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary; Tirupati – IISER Tirupati & Nagaravanam and Panaji – Arannya Environment Research Organisation & Carambolim Lake.

Early Bird is a learning programme to bring children closer to birds and nature. Its programmes have impacted more than 3 lakh children since its inception 10 years ago. This is through distribution of innovative educational materials on Indian birds, available in 10 Indian languages, besides English. Early Bird is a part of Nature Conservation Society, a 25-year-old public charitable trust set up to contribute to knowledge and conservation of India’s unique wildlife heritage, the release added.
