ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Arunachal Pradesh sharing boundary with Assam and Nagaland besides international borders with Bhutan is a sensitive state. Thus, in view of April 19 simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections security has been tightened at all 25 inter-state check gates.

The police personnel posted in the gate are ensuring that neither unwanted elements nor restricted items, particularly arms and ammunition enter the state from outside, a senior police officer told this daily.

The Likabali check gate (in picture) in Lower Siang district, located on the outskirts of the town at a point in between the ridges of the hilly range overriding the town, is not just a check gate to regulate entry and exit of vehicles, but also serves as the gateway to Upper Subansiri, Shi-Yomi, Leparada, West Siang, Upper Siang and Siang districts.

With the vigilance enhanced at this entry point, a lot of election-related issues, especially in the context of enforcement of model code of conduct (MCC) for all the districts, is being taken care of by the vigilant cops manning the gate, the officer added.
