ITANAGAR, May 07: The Arunachal Pradesh Schedule Tribe Welfare Society (APSTW) has decided to take up offspring issue of APST mother and non-APST father availing benefits of the state Govt.

APSTW spokesperson Pedam Dukam during a press conference at APC here on Tuesday, said that there are hundreds of non-APSTs availing ST status in the state.

Pointing out that the issue relating to offspring of APST mother and non-APST father having ST, PRC and other certificates is a serious matter, Dukam said that rights granted to non-APSTs would give a negative impact on future generations of the state.

“Be it in terms of job opportunities or contract works, our tribal people can’t compete with the non-APSTs”, Dukam said and asserted that the society would initiate first phase of operation clean drive against the offspring enjoying benefits as an APST.

He urged other community based organisations, students’ unions and NGOs to refrain from providing shelter to non-APSTs availing the ST status during their clean drive. The modus operandi of operation clean drive will be discussed soon, he said.

The APSTW would also pursue the matter with the state Govt in greater interest of indigenous populace of the state, its general secretary Tai Taka said, adding that there are many instances in which non-APSTs have erected immovable structures while making his APST wife as a shield.

He also clarified that the sole objective is to provide benefits and rights given by the state Govt to the APST population.
