Make Namsai beggar free district under SMILE: DC

NAMSAI, May 08: Namsai DC C.R. Khampa, in his presidential address to coordination meeting of project SMILE (Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprises) with all stakeholders, here on Tuesday, called for preparing a roadmap to rehabilitate and facilitate beggars to join mainstream to live a dignified life.

He suggested secretary of Dhama Aid Foundation (DAF), implementing NGO of SMILE, to coordinate with other rehabilitation centres to provide skill training as per their age, capability and eligibility and work sincerely to achieve the goal of  ensuing that no one begs  in the district as envisioned in SMILE.

Earlier, EAC Oni Padun highlighted the objective of SMILE project as its nodal officer She also enlisted issues faced by DAF during rescue operation and overall management of the project and sought help of police, health, education, economics & statistic and women and child development departments.

A power point presentation on activities and goals of the SMILE was presented by DAF project manager Chow Dinesh Chowlik.

The meeting, attended by  SP, CDPO, representative of DMO, DDSE, ADES, district administration and various NGOs, resolved to function under one umbrella for proper documentations and to respond to all issues effectively, according to an official release.
