DC seeks steps to check rampant illegal mining

ITANAGAR, May 08: Rampant illegal mining activities are going on Itanagar Capital Complex despite several orders, DC Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta told a coordination meeting of all stakeholders.

As the meeting aimed at chalking out action plan for preventive measures of mining affected areas, she stressed on urgent steps to reduce risks of mining affected areas.

She sought technical expertise of all concerned on how to tackle the problem and also to streamline the permission process for the notified quarries.

In view of the monsoon season, she advocated collaborative efforts to prevent such illegal activities and advocated vulnerable mapping and monitoring to keep an eye on the vulnerable locations that could be prone to disaster.

The SRSA would help in providing vulnerable mapping by categorising areas prone to disaster, said its director H K Dutta.  ADC I/c Datum Gadi, representatives of departments  of Geology and Mining, Disaster Management and Earth Science and Himalayan Studies were present. (DIPRO)
