Radio talk enlightens people on TB & HIV

NAMSAI, May 08:  A radio talk on TB & HIV by DTO-cum-DACO Dr. Padi Tala and OST-cum-FIART Centre’s Dr. Sweta Namchoom was broadcast from Mahabodhi Lord Buddha College Community Radio Centre here recently.

Giving an overview of the NACP, Dr Tala spoke various types of TB, symptoms, treatment and TB-HIV co-morbidity. Any chronic diseases, like diabetes, hypertension, thyroid, kidney, liver, cancer, HIV, old age(>60 years) and < 10 years of age.

Dr Tala also spoke on NTEP schemes, like Nikshay Poshan Yojana, Tribal Support Scheme, treatment supporter’s honorarium and informant incentives, Pradhan Mantri TB Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan under which consenting TB patients are provided free food basket by Nikshay Mitras, all effective ways to prevent infection from this deadly disease.

He urged one and all to share TB and HIV/AIDS information with others to benefit maximum number of people.

Speaking on HIV/AIDS, Dr. Namchoom informed that HIV gets e transmitted through blood transfusion, transmission from mother to child during pregnancy, sharing syringes between injectable drug users and unprotected sex with an infected partner.

She also spoke on how HIV spreads, its clinical stages, difference between HIV & AIDS, and treatment. But, hospitals and community health centres in the district offer free screening service, she said, adding the services provided by various NGOs are as per guidelines of National AIDS Control Organisation, according to an official release.
