Chakka bandh ends peacefully

PASIGHAT  | Jun 08 |    The 12-hour chakka bandh against the GoAP decision to invite bidders for public auction of operation of ferry services at River Taro Tamak along Mebo-Dhola Road, called by Namsing villagers Tuesday passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.

Around 300 women, PRI leaders, GBs and senior public leaders blocked the Mebo-Dhola road halting traffic movement including commuters baring medical cases, police, magistrate and media.

Respecting the pleas of the villagers, no bidders came forward for bidding process though invited by district transport office. When contacted, DTO Chakfa Wangsu said that this may pave way for Namsing villagers to retain the Taro Tamak Ferry Services.
