ITANAGAR, Feb 19: Hundreds of hectares of illegal opium cultivation were destructed by a joint operation conducted by multi-agency operation in Lohit district in coordination with Central Bureau of Narcotic Gwalior, state narcotic central cell led by SNO Oli Koyu recently.
The operation, under supervision of excise & narcotic commissioner Snirodh S. Singh and collaboration with district administrator, police & armed personnel, covered in Wakro and Tezu circles was successful, sources told this daily.
With rising trend of illicit opium cultivation in this region while annual census for last 45 years indicated that central agency like CBN and NCB along with state agency have resorting to such activities. However, no case was registered against illicit opium cultivator and land owner and it was felt necessary to register a FIR.
Thus, SNO Koyu for the first time since independence filed an FIR against cultivator and land owner with Tezu police station u/s 46 and 47 of NDPS 1985.
With this most desired action would make it mandatory for local police to find out the land owner by verifying district land record as the OC was also a member of operation team.
