NIHRO says Aboh murder political, JD-U seeks bold steps against UG

ITANAGAR, May 22: Condolences and condemnation over killing of sitting Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh and 10 others near Bogapani village on Tuesday have been pouring in.

Vehemently condemning brutal assassination of Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh, his relatives and family members by underground elements, Nefa Indigenous Human Rights Organisation (NIHRO) termed it as “political killing exhibiting high level nexus of political class with UG elements in the stat”.

This has resulted an era of vindictive political persuasion in state’s political history, NIHRO president Domin Loya and VP Tarh Atung said in a release.

Conveying deep sense of condolences to the bereaved families, the NIHRO demanded thorough probe into this incidents by the NIA and stringent action soon against whoever involved, particularly those political leaders or party found involved.

The rising crimes, like murder, clan wars and goons reining the streets everywhere indicated that the state is passing through worst ever failure of law and order situation and socio-political chaos while the state administration remains insensitive. The election process aggravated the situation creating a war like atmosphere leading to violence and murders. The current political situation and its outcome would be worrisome for the state as present leadership is unable to contain the political violence. It is a matter of serious concern for the citizens that the extremists are taking upper hands.

Reportedly, late Aboh was facing serious security threat since the beginning of his election campaign, his supporter, a former ZPM was assassinated, but the state Govt did not offer him additional security. Thus, the chief secretary and DGP dealing with administration should be held responsible for the security failure. Thus, the NIHRO demands immediate transfer of incumbent CS and DGP.

Alleging incident as political assassination, it demanded that the opponent candidate and the party should be banned from contesting in the future election from Khonsa West seat.

Strongly condemning the barbaric assassination, Arunachal state Janata Dal United (JD-U) unit termed it as an attack on democratic set up as he was on his way to Khonsa for vote counting on Tuesday.

The party appealed to state and central governments to take bold steps to deal with UG elements for peace to prevail.

While conveying condolences to bereaved families, party leaders observed two-minute silence to pray for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.

State’s longest serving PPS to CM, Rajendran. K, who knew Aboh personally, termed Tuesday’s incident as “shocking and grieving tragedy”. The most inhuman and barbaric act snatched away the life a young and promising Arunachal leader, particularly of Tirap district. He was a minister in Congress Ministry led by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki. This dastardly act is highly condemnable and irreparable loss for the state.

“May the Almighty God give the bereaved family more mental strength and courage to bear the. He conveyed his deep sense of condolences to all bereave families and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls”, he said in his condolence message.
