Inferno devours 54 houses | MPs, MLA offer financial help: DC

NAHARLAGUN, Mar 25: At least 54 houses and a community hall were gutted and 22 others damaged partially when a massive fire broke out in Kaying village under Kaying circle of Siang district around 10.40 am Wednesday in which assets worth lakh were lost, DC Rajik Takuk told this daily over telephone.

On receipt of information around 11 am; SP Kausal Pal Singh, Rumgong ADC J Padung and EAC Tagam Miban were rushed to the spot to conduct rescue operation, he said and termed it as double COVID-19 menace.

No loss of life was reported but a women sustained minor injury in the accident, he said, adding a circle officer has been camping in the village.

Though he spoke to disaster management secretary and director over telephone and sent a detailed report seeking ex-gratia payment for the victims; he disclosed that blanket, utensils and food stuffs were procured with Rs 1.62 lakh  through the ADC at his directive and given to them as immediate relief as per norms.

However, he has constituted a committee headed by Kaying EAC to assess the losses and submit report within 48 hours, he said.

Meanwhile, Lok Sbha member Tapir Gao informed him that he has sanctioned Rs 15 lakh from him MPLAD fund and directed his nodal officer Lohit DC for the needful,  Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering offered Rs one lakh and Rs 10 lakh from his MLALAD Fund to procure CGI sheets, while Union MoS for Sports & Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju and  Rumgong MLA Talem Taboh have also assured to extend help, he added.
