MEBO, Aug 30: Mebo ADC Ainstien Koyu along with ZPM Mebo Banggo-II Oter Ering Tayeng, GPC Sigar Indu Yommin Monday handed over the CGI sheets to the flood affected families, who have to evacuate their houses to other safer places.
Fifty CGI sheets each to 10 flood affected families which was funded under MLA LAD fund was distributed to families whose houses are in the verge of washing away from flash floods at Sigar village.
Talking to media over phone from Itanagar, local MLA Lombo Tayeng informed that in the first phase six families who have already shifted to the higher grounds were given eighty (80) numbers of CGI sheets each and further assured that in the third phase all the other villagers will be covered.”
Owing to the incessant rain, the water level in Siang river has risen to such an extent that it has engulfed half of the residential area of the village and in the west, Siku river have already eroded larger area of cultivated land of Sigar village.
The PWD link road connecting Sigar to the other parts of Mebo, is just 3 meters away from washing out by the flood water. However, the alternative road extending 3 kilometers approximately, which was started two weeks earlier, was finished during the day, despite heavy downpour for the past two months in the region.
Meanwhile, Yommin informed that the PHE along with the help of villagers have restored the old water pipeline along the alternative road side. He appealed the government for a new water supply pipeline to the newly shifted Popir Patang.
The GPC further appealed to the government for allocation of funds for reconstruction of UPS Sigar which was washed away last year by flash floods along with the staff quarters in the absence of which the villagers are going through very hard times.
