Certificate course on beekeeping begins at AUS

ITANAGAR, Nov 29: A 200 hours certificate course in ‘value addition and marketing of NTFPs (Animal Origin): wild beekeeping & processing’ under Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) was kicked off at Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) here on Monday.

The program is being funded by the union ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC through Arunachal state ENVIS Hub of the forest department.

Speaking on the occasion, AUS Vice Chancellor Prof B. Mohan Kumar dwelt on various applications of bee rearing like active pollinator, therapeutic uses etc. He encouraged the farmers to take up collective cooperative ventures in Arunachal Pradesh.

MD & pro vice chancellor of the varsity Vishva Lochan gave details of the previous Green Skill Development Programme’s (GSDP) conducted based on bamboo Sector. He spoke about the success of the earlier programmes and how students from previous batch have transformed the knowledge gained into sustainable livelihood generation.

Attending the program, Project Director and Director of Science & Technology (AUS) Dr Rani Jha highlighted on various skill development projects which are currently being run at the university.

She informed about the numerous opportunities available for the APST youths between 18-35 years at the university.

Former professor of Assam Agriculture University Dr Ataur Rehman, serving as the senior resource person at the GSDP training program, gave detailed insight into the various types of bee products, crop based honey production and economics of honey and beekeeping.
