World Red Cross Day celebrated | Make Arunachal a healthy state: Guv

NAHARLAGUN, May 08: Governor Lt. General (Retd) KT Parnaik, also Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Arunachal Pradesh state branch (APSB) president has called upon the volunteers to spread the cause of IRCS and make their activities purposeful and effective.

Addressing World Red Cross Day celebration at Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) here on Wednesday, he paid floral tribute to Red Cross movement founder Sir Jean Henry Dunant and all those volunteers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of humanity, he suggested organizing seminars and interactions by involving education institutes to educate people the best ways to mitigate challenges during natural disasters, epidemics and accidental emergencies.

Exhorting the RCS volunteers to reach out to destitute, orphans and neglected people, particularly TB, HIV and drug affected people, he called for endeavours to make Arunachal Pradesh a healthy, happy and compassionate state, where all would care for each other, he said.

Exhorting the people, particularly the youth, to imbibe spirit of volunteer service and be part of the IRCS, he called upon all educational institutes, tribal organizations and corporate bodies to join the IRCS initiatives.

He called for reorganizing the APSB in a more structural way for it to respond to any exigency efficiently and suggested to emulate  NGOs of Tirap and Changlang districts working for rehabilitation of drug addicts and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh rendering service in every emergency at national level.

The IRCS should serve a bridge between affected people and the Govt during any relief operation; he said and lauded APSB for organizing a voluntary blood donation camp to commemorate this Day. He lauded all voluntary blood donors and those who were involved in it. Large number of personnel of volunteers of state police, ITBP, NSS and students came forward to donate blood.

The governor also presented appreciation certificates to, PTC principal, ITBP commandant, vice chancellors of Global University & Arunodaya University, chairpersons of Oju Welfare Association & Arunachal Shining Mom & Dad for their contributions for the blood donation camp and ongoing celebration.

A brief report on APSB activities, including during COVID-19, fire accidents and natural disasters, was presented by its honorary secretary Dr. Emi Rumi earlier.
