NAMSAI | May 12| Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) proposed bandh in Namsai district on Friday was reportedly stopped with the intervention of district’s students’ bodies.
The AdiSU members reportedly attempted to block Dirak check gate, entry point of the district but were prevented by All Tai Khampti-Singpho Students’ Union (ATKSSU), All Namsai District Students’ Union (ANDSU) and All Namsai Area Youth Association (ANAYA).
These organisations, in a joint statement on Friday evening, expressed their resentment over the forced bandh by AdiSU even after prior declaration not to entertain bandh.
“The dispute does not involve Tai-Khampti and Singpho communities and should be solved amicably within their disputed jurisdiction”, the statement said, adding that solution could be found without resorting to bandh calls.
Condemning the act, the statement said that “Understanding sensitivity of the issue, the AdiSU should refrain from such moves in future to avoid untoward consequences”.
Meanwhile, Namsai resident informed that normal life continued as usual, markets and offices remained open while vehicles plied unrestricted.
